1996 1er Cru Classé Sauternes

Grapes Muscadelle, Sémillon, Sauv Blanc
Origin France, Bordeaux
Village Sauternes
Classification 1er Cru Classé

The nose is relatively simple compared to recent vintage with barley sugar, a touch of toffee apple/caramel – more advance than one would expect for a ’96 Sauternes. The palate has a touch of spice on the entry, good acidity but in no way a complex Suduiraut. There are touches of ginger and marmalade towards the finish that has good length. Rating: 88-88 Neal Martin, (Sep 2011)

*Case Price: Mix any 12 bottles of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.

Bright gold. Pretty simple on the nose. Very big and barley sugar on the palate. You couldn’t fail to like this even if it not one of the subtlest. Chewy end. Drinking range: 2012 - 2020 Rating: 17 Jancis Robinson MW OBE - (Feb 2011)

A whiff of licorice on the nose. Fat, oaky and moderately thick; fairly sweet but doesn't offer the shape or depth of flavor of the '97. The finish, though, is ripe, honeyed and long. Rating: 89-89 Stephen Tanzer, (Jul 1999)
