Riper and richer than Talbot 2002, and indeed the maitre du chai thinks it better than the 2000. This is a big wine for Talbot, with all the scale and concentration to go with the inhabitual 13° of alcohol (Talbot is usually 12.5° to 12.8°). Nose is keen and taut - just ripe rather than overripe. Palate silky, fresh, an open, delicious, easy to hold in the mouth refreshing style. Broad, full and ripe, with lots of sweetness in the fruit and this point of sweetness of fruit flavour is what is left at the finish - very attractive. L&S (Mar 2005)

Black olive tapenade intermixed with red and black currants, new saddle leather, licorice and spice aromas are followed by a medium-bodied, juicy, succulent, fully mature 2003. This has some exotic but cleanly presented fruit on the nose, dark, confit berries as you might expect. The palate is very nicely composed though, nicely fat but with rather good acidity, all rolled together in an attractive, mouthfilling style. This has real appeal, and is excellent when taken in the context of the vintage. Firm tannin, quite a wall of it at the finish which as ever is my main concern. But this is as good a wine from Talbot as I have tasted in a long time, and it has built on the early promise seen at the UGC tasting in 2005. Aromas of blackberry, currant and mineral follow through to a full-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a chocolate and light vanilla aftertaste. Subtle and long. Caressing texture. Hard not to drink now. Best after 2010. Rating: 91 James Suckling, The Wine Spectator (Jul 2012)
