SAGRANTINO DI MONTEFALCO

2003 25 Anni Arnaldo-Caprai

Grapes Sagrantino
Colour Red
Origin Italy, Umbria
Sub-district Sagrantino di Montefalco
ABV 14.5%

First produced in 1993 as a celebration of the estate's jubilee, the '25 Anni' is a selection of the estate's best Sagrantino. Aged for 24 months in new barrels, it is a hugely impressive wine, packed with rich-berry fruit and beautifully integrated oak, and powerfully dense with very lovely tannins. A wine that will age magnificently over the next two decades L&S (Aug 2006)

Arnaldo-Caprai

The Caprai winery and vineyards lie on the hillside below the Umbrian hilltop town of Montefalco. Founded in 1971 by Arnaldo-Caprai Caprai, and now in the hands of his son Marco, the estate has become the leading producer of Sagrantino wines in the region. Sagrantino shows no resemblance to any of Italy's other grape varieties, and is almost exclusive to the region of Montefalco - it is thick-skinned, small bunched and small-berried, but big in every other way: colour, tannins, acids, extracts, and sugars.
