Late harvested but fermented totally dry, so that the initial attack of rich honeyed fruit might seem to be sweet, but in fact is balanced by an almost perfect mineral acidity in this vintage. Both floral and honied, this drinks beautifully. L&S (Jan 2010)

Their top cuvée. Lots of orange on the nose, rich and a little nutty. Even more orangey on the palate but wonderfully crisp with a sour grapefruit freshness on the finish. A wine to be drunk and drunk slowly and thoughtfully. Hugely distinctive and finely balanced. Incredibly youthful. 2009-2020 Rating: 17 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Nov 2012)
Baked apples and real interest. Firm and dense and round and a real please-all. Look at that age! It must mature at a snail’s pace (as my botrytised 1983 from this address showed recently). Exceptional in every way. Fairly low acid. 2009-2013 Rating: 16.5 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Nov 2011)
Frankly, even though this could keep we’re not sure we’d have the will power. An intriguing, aromatic, almost oriental-spice infused nose is punctuated by delicate primrose notes. A stunning Burgundian Chardonnay. Striking honeyed tones from the late-harvesting of wine, but fermented completely dry, this is fresh with a funky, aromatic, mineral streak. Rating: 94 The Wine Gang - www.thewinegang.com (Dec 2010)
Domaine de la Bon Gran
The Thévenets' original and flagship domaine, in which Jean Thévenet's son Gautier is now formly in charge, still making wines which are rich and ripe and are given no oak at all, and yet which still manage to be the most complex and satisfying wines of the Mâconnais.
The main cuvée we ship is his top 'dry' cuvée, called 'Sélection EJ Thévenet', which, after a nervous few years in which wines with over 2g of residual sugar were not admitted into the appellation, is now allowed to be called Viré-Clessé. Gautier also makes tiny quantities of the highly sought-after Cuvée Levroutée, a late-harvest just touched by botrytis with the constitution and depth of a Montrachet, and infinitesimal amounts of his Cuvée Botrytis, a fully sweet Sélection des Grains Nobles style. Organic production.
