Great lightness of touch in this vintage of Suduiraut. Tangy fruit, lifted and classy in a way that is rare this year. Very attractive citrus peel, and power as well as precision. Rating: 93 L&S (Apr 2008)

A blend of 95% Sémillon and 5% Sauvignon Blanc harvested in five tries between September 15 and October 30, the 2007 Suduiraut exhales aromas of Mirabel, apricot and herbs mingled with menthol hints. Moderately weighted and less concentrated than the previous vintages, it’s layered and charming with a juicy core of fruit and a delicate, gastronomic bitterness. Matured for 20 months in oak barrels (35% new and 35% one year), it contains 134 grams per liter of residual sugar. Drinking range: 2012 - 2034 Rating: 91 Yohan Castaing, www.robertparker.com (Jun 2024)

The 2007 Suduiraut has a well-defined bouquet with quince, Mirabelle, orange rind and light waxy aromas. The palate is well balanced and viscous in texture with tangy marmalade on the entry, fine depth and a gorgeous tangerine, slightly peppery finish that lingers in the mouth. Excellent. Tasted at the 2007 horizontal in Sauternes. Drinking range: 2022 - 2045 Rating: 94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Oct 2022)

The 2007 Suduiraut was cropped at 16hl/ha. It has a similar bouquet to the bottle I last encountered in 2016. It opens gradually with scents of dried honey, apricot blossom and a touch more melted wax than I recall. The palate is very well balanced with intense botrytised fruit, a fine line of acidity, perhaps just a little drier than it was a couple of years back, though developing intriguing notes of mandarin, tangerine, white pepper and Clementine. It is drinking beautifully now although it will clearly continue to age gracefully over another two decades. 131gm/L residual sugar. Tasted at the Suduiraut vertical at the château. Drinking range: 2019 - 2050 Rating: 94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Mar 2019)

Château Suduiraut

Sauternes Premier Cru 1855 The de Suduiraut family lived on their estate in Preignac at least as far back as 1580. In the later years of the 17th Century, a dispute with the local Governor led to the château being flattened. In response, Comte Blaise de Suduiraut rebuilt in lavish manner, with gardens laid out by King Louis XIV's designer. Since the de Suduiraut's time there have been many owners, but today it is in the very capable hands of AXA Millésimes. The 92ha of vineyard are planted with 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. There is a second wine, which takes its name from a neighbouring estate that was absorbed into Suduiraut in 1831, and is called Castelnau de Suduiraut.
