2008 3ème Cru Classé Margaux
|Classification||3ème Cru Classé|
Fruit is the dominant note. Close-textured and cool and fresh youthful purple flavours to the fore. Tannins solidly gripping and blackly pure. Big and long. Rating: 89-90 L&S (Apr 2009)

Tasted at the Château Giscours vertical, the 2008 Château Giscours is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot picked between September 30 and October 1. The bouquet is very well defined with ebullient red berry fruit mixed with orange peel and cedar aromas. There is something that distantly echoes a Côte de Beaune! Perhaps the purity on offer here? The palate is very well balanced with a keen line of acidity, very fine tannins and ample freshness. I loved this Giscours from barrel and it is now living up to my expectations. The terroir shines through on this wine - true Margaux. This is an excellent wine from winemaker Alexandre Van Beek. Tasted June 2015. Drinking range: 2015 - 2030 Rating: 91-91 Neal Martin, www.robertparker.com (Jul 2016)
Dark plum/garnet, this elegant, medium to full-bodied, beguiling, seductive 2008 is a sleeper of the vintage. Round and silky-smooth with lovely black cherry and black currant fruit imbued with touches of smoke, herbs and earth, this relatively evolved effort is best consumed over the next 15-17 years. Drinking range: 2011 - 2028 Rating: 90-90 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, www.RobertParker.com (May 2011)
Healthy crimson. Already quite complex, seductive aromas. Fresh start with real spring in its step – energetic and lively and very well balanced yet with real intrigue still to be revealed. Good wine. Neat finish. Tightly packed. Limpid – wonderful confidence! 2014-27 Rating: 17.5 Jancis Robinson MW OBE - www.JancisRobinson.com (Apr 2009)
Blackberry and milk chocolate aromas follow through to a medium body, with good fruit, delicate tannins and a fresh finish. Rating: 87-90 James Suckling, The Wine Spectator (Apr 2009)
Black-red, very expressive blackcurrant nose, almost crème de cassis without the sweetness, good slightly earthy fruit, palate more subdued than the nose, has class and length. Drink 2014-20. Rating: 16*** www.decanter.com (Apr 2009)
Margaux Troisième cru 1855 Château Giscours has had many owners over the years since Pierre de Lhomme bought "Guyscoutz" in 1552 and laid out an estate and vineyards. The present château was built in 1847 by Count de Pescatore. Like many Bordelais estates, Giscours was in poor condition after World War II, but its fortunes were rescued by Nicolas Tari who bought the property in 1954 and set about restoring and enlarging Giscours. In 1995, Giscours' business activities were purchased by Eric Albada Jelgersma, the owner of near-by Château du Tertre. The 83ha of vineyard are 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The Grand Vin spends 15 to 18 months in wood (50% new). Château Giscours is home to the Bordeaux Giscours Cricket Club - the national champions!
