2009 Grand Cru Joseph Drouhin
|Sub-district||Côte de Nuits|
Slightly jammy fruit nose. Very soft and easy. Slight edge of stewed starwberry, lots of ripe fruit flavour initially seems a bit simple. Picks up a bit of energy mid-palate, and finishes well. Would like to see this again. L&S (Dec 2010)
*Case Price: Mix any 12 bottles of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.
The 2009 Charmes-Chambertin is a big, full-bodied wine loaded with warm, radiant fruit. This is an engaging, immediate style best suited to near and mid-term drinking. Charmes is one of the more challenged sites in 2009. Drouhin's Charmes is made from purchased fruit. Rating: 91 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Nov 2013)
Moderately saturated medium red. Raspberry, flowers and iron on the nose. Suave on entry, then charming, delineated and sweet, with harmonious acidity carrying the finish. Not technically high in acidity but boasts good energy. Finishes with very good but not outstanding length. Rating: 88-91 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Jan 2011)
Softly and broadly scented. Seductive on the palate. It is elegant, juicy with some grip in the middle. It is very inviting, although the texture is quite loose. It is perfumed on the finish which is also fresh. Fine. From 2016/7 Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing (Jan 2011)
Despite the size of their vineyard holding, not all of Drouhin's wines come from their own domaine, but most of the other wines do come from long-term contracts, such as exists with the Marquis de Laguiche wines. In all but name these wines are 'Domaine' wines, and the vineyards are cared for and the wines vinified with exactly the same care.
