Gordon & MacPhail

James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail founded their grocery business in 1895 and the company shop is still there on South Street, Elgin as it has been for over 120 years. John Urquhart joined the business in 1915 and today his family still own and run the company. Outside of Elgin, of course, Gordon & Macphail is known as a whisky merchant, buying up young whiskies, ageing them and bottling them under the Gordon & Macpahil label. In 1998, they finally entered the distilling business proper with the purchase of the Benromach Distillery.
