Clean aromatic nose with rich cherry and plum notes. Full, dense and chewy with lots of ripe and cedary oak tannins followed by spices and a cranberry finish. (Highly recommended Brunello di Montalcino 2010). Drinking range: 2017 - 2028 Rating: 90+ Decanter Magazine (Oct 2015)

Bright red! Light nose is so well melded and non aggressive, it’s like being stroked with a feather. Then the power and dried-leaf tannins build on the end – quite a different structure from many of the other wines – rather burgundian. Drinking range: 2017 - 2030 Rating: 17.5 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jul 2015)

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a dark, powerful wine. Black cherry, plum, game, smoke, tobacco and earthiness abound, but there is more than enough depth to balance some of the wilder, gamier undertones. Overall, the 2010 is a bit rough around the edges, but also intriguing in its own way. Drinking range: 2016 - 2026 Rating: 89+ Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Feb 2015)

Collemattoni

This is a small, 13-hectare estate, spread across the Southwest and Southeast of Montalcino. The winery (and some of these 13 hectares), sits in San Angelo in Colle on the southern side of the hill of Montalcino, nestling above the famous and rather larger Col d'Orcia vineyards (145 hectares). Winemaker Marcello Bucci is making wonderfully good wines which have rapidly increased both in quality and international recognition.

With his new winery now well and truly bedded in Marcello is thriving with the greater control and flexibility he now has - this is an estate going from strength to strength and the wines have a real true imprint of these beautiful rolling hills and Marcello's gentle manner. The wines from these vineyards are fuller and riper perhaps, than Fuligni or Padelletti. However, where there may be less lacy finesse, they more than compensate with indulgent joy, not to mention with their pricing. Collemattoni make some of the best value wines of the region.
