95% Syrah, aged for 18 months in 300 litre used French hogsheads. Extraordinarily pure currant and berry fruit, intense and ripe but with charming finesse, an almost Pinot-like silky feel and a refreshing finish. Certainly more ‘Syrah’ than ‘Shiraz’, as you might expect from Austrian winemaker Bert Soloman. Will enrich any dinner table. Drinking range: 2012 - 2020 L&S (Jun 2014)

96% shiraz, 4% viognier. You’d call it a light, perfumed, elegant style – an Australian “syrah” – but it does carry quite a lot of oak. Thing is, it carries it well, despite its obviousness. Awash with sweet blueberry and black cherry, it’s a juicy wine with deliciousness written all over it. I had serious trouble keeping my mits offov it. Very fine tannin. Perfectly judged acidity. Perfumed to smell and in the mouth. For now and in the medium term, it’s beautiful drinking. The Wine Front, Campbell Mattinson Rating: 93 Press Reviewer(Jul 2013)
Strong, bright red-purple; the scented red and black fruits of the bouquet are amplified by the energy and drive of the medium- to full-bodied palate, and its lively finish. The screwcap guarantees its future Rating: 94 James Halliday - winecompanion.com.au(Jul 2013)
...a delicious wine with concentrated aromas of dark berries on the nose and a luxuriant softness on the palate. The use of the word Syrah, as opposed to Shiraz – they are the same grape variety – further highlights the European influence, as does the dash of Viognier in the blend.Jonathan Jackson, www.jjwine.blogspot.co.uk/(Jun 2013)
Bert Salomon's Australian vineyard holdings are in the Finniss River region, on the Fleurieu Peninsula, just south of Adelaide. Founded by his ancestors in 1866, the current generation followed his lead over a hundred years later to make wines with the same meticulous care that they follow in the Wachau, Austria.
For local knowledge and expertise, Bert has been helped from the outset by his longtime friend Mike Farmilo, who was Penfold’s chief red winemaker until 1997. It has clearly been a winning combination.
