VIOGNIER

2010 Terras d'Alter

Grapes Viognier
Colour White
Origin Portugal, Alentejo
ABV 13.5%

Grown in hotter regions Viognier can so easily become too alcoholic and flabbily aromatic, rendering it undrinkable. Grown on austere granite soils and fermented under cool and controlled conditions, this Viognier is a beauty, with notes of apricot, ripe fruits and a bright taut acidity. L&S (Apr 2011)

Not 100% sure I would see the Viognier immediately if this were served blind, but it certainly doesn’t lack personality or impact. Weight and good fresh green-leaf acidity. Good balance. An intriguing find. Wonder how old the vines are? Rating: 16 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (May 2011)

Terras d'Alter

Terras d'Alter is in the Alto Alentejo region in the south of Portugal, where the history of wine growing dates back to Roman times. This extensive history, and a focus which remains largely on native Portuguese varietals, is combined with the New World expertise of dynamic & enterprising winemaker Peter Bright, an Australian making wine in Portugal since 1982.
