Arnaud Roux-Oulié is a charming man and a winemaker we never ignore on our annual Bordeaux visits. Clad in his retro M65 Vietnam jacket his wines can sometimes be as muscular as Arnaud himself but this 2011 (like so many wines in this underrated vintage) has beautiful finesse, perfect tension, silky fruit and a very grown up claret nose and mouthfeel. The snooty will dismiss Fronsac as a lesser appellation in Bordeaux but mid 18th century, a hogshead of canon Fronsac was the first wine to be auctioned at Christie’s and far more celebrated than the wines from its communal neighbour St Emilion. Super value at this level and the future of affordable Bordeaux. Drinking range: 2015 - 2019 L&S (Jul 2019)
