Classification Grand Cru Classé

80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Tasted after Quinault at Cheval Blanc - it is under the same ownership and this one is just across the road from Cheval Blanc (it used to be called Tour du Pin Figeac). They describe it as being 'in a coherent style with Quinault but with more palate presence'. Bright colour and more raspberry, a shapely freshness and juicy appeal, with fine-tannined richness on the mid-palate and finish. Rating: 92-92 L&S (Apr 2012)

The nose is quite light fresh fragrant and red fruited. The palate has a richer feel with the sweetness of black fruits coming through. The tannins give structure but are ripe not overpowering the fruit. 2018-38 Rating: 89-91 Derek Smedley MW, 2013)

Dense and concentrated, this Cheval Blanc-run St Emilion is impressively powerful for a 2011, with lots of oak, plenty of fruitcake and plum flavours, but finely wrought tannins. Polished and very well made, this finishes with a lift of freshness and acidity. One of the better ‘lesser’ St Emilions in 2011. 8+ years. Rating: 93 Tim Atkin MW, 2012)

This blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc from the owners of Cheval Blanc is medium-bodied, seductive, but also tart, angular and lacking flesh and fat. It should fill out with more time in barrel, but it is by no means comparable to what this estate achieved in 2010 and 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. Rating: 85-87 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2012)

The La Tour du Pin is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet picked from 8th September. The nose is broader and has more depth than Quinault l’Enclos (also farmed by the Cheval Blanc team.) The fruit is darker, the nose a little “stockier”. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine grip. It has the vintages tensile tannins, a thin layer of dark berry fruit but a very composed and refined finish that does not taper away or exhibit any dryness. Fine. Rating: 88-90 Neal Martin, 2012)

From a small property between Figeac and the appellation boundary with Pomerol, close to Cheval Blanc; the two estates are under the same management. The blend is Merlot 80%, Cabernet Franc 20%. Very dark, sweet fruit here but it is defined and pure. A bright style despite this darkness to the fruit though. Smoky, elegant, supple. A restrained palate, textured and yet defined through the middle, and the tannins are very fine. A good velvety texture to the tannins, fresh and bright, with a lovely harmony, and a grippy finish. There is plenty of promise here. Rating: 16-17 Chris Kissack, 2012)

Deep greyish crimson. 75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc. Perfumed and a little leafy. Fresh with just a hint of graphite. Juicy, refined tannins. Lithe and so elegant, just slips across the palate but lasts long. Tannins are dry and there's a cedary flavour in the middle but it just adds to the freshness. Lovely wine. Texture is refinement incarnate. Well done! 2017-2028 Rating: 17 Julia Harding MW, 2012)

Subtle berry fruit. Gentle texture but solid structure for ageing. Perhaps a little strict in style. Drink 2018-2026. Rating: 16 2012)
