60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. From the western side of the appellation by Lagrange, where the quaternary gravel of the riverside bank gives way to sand and clay. The tannins are present but ripe, soft. An easy, ample wine despite a certain structure. Rating: 89 L&S (Apr 2012)

Bright ruby-red. Musky aromas of blackcurrant, strawberry, flint and violet. Juicy, spicy and bright, showing a restrained sweetness to the dark berry and herb flavors. Made by Bruno Borie (the proprietor of Ducru Beaucaillou), this blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon is a fleshy, open-knit vin de plaisir offering copious fruit, not a great deal of complexity, but a fleshy mouthfeel and good texture as well as length. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the Lalande Borie has a lifted, leafy bouquet with blackberry, sous-bois and tobacco. Nicely defined, perhaps a little rustic around the edges, but fresh. The palate has sharp acidity on the entry with brusque tannins.
