A blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc, the 2011 Nenin reveals a Medoc-like style of nicely delineated, medium-bodied black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with hints of flowers and earthy/mineral notes. Impressive purity, good texture and a decent finish suggest it will drink well for a decade. 2012 - 2022 Rating: 87-89 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2012)

The Nénin 2011 is a blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc with 17% pressed wine cropped at 44 hl/ha. I do like the nose of this Nénin that has fine delineation and more purity and focus than exhibited upon recent vintages; the minerality more tangible. The palate is fresh and vibrant with silky smooth tannins, good acidity, lovely crescendo of flavours and great tension on the finish. This is a very fine Nénin, one that perhaps finally realizes the potential of its terroir. Rating: 90-92 Neal Martin, 2012)

The blend here is 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc, alcohol 13.7%, acidity 3.50 g/l and IPT 71. A charcoaly edge to the fruit here, with rather stretched red-fruit character. It feels sweet, lightly caramelly too. The palate shows a more hopeful supple edge to the texture but it falls away in the middle to allow the tannins to dominate with a hard, charcoaly extraction. Good acid structure to it as well, but overall it seems a little hard worked. Rating: 13.5-14.5 Chris Kissack, 2012)

Château Nénin

Two things make Château Nenin standout from the rest of Pomerol – at 32ha it is considerably larger than most in in this crowded appellation; and Nenin has a real bona fide 19th Century château at its core rather than the more usual small shed. Infact it appears more along the lines of something one might find in the Haut-Médoc which is perhaps fitting as, since 1987, it has been in common ownership with Château Potensac and the great Saint Julien estate of Château Leoville Las Cases. As one might expect with such a noble stable-mate, quality has advanced rapidly in line with a lot of healthy investment in the estate. The vineyards are planted with 78% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon with an average age of around 30 years. The second wine is Fugue de Nenin.
