This is balanced, graceful, white pepper spice, complex and concentrated with pencil lead and grilled oak. Plenty of raspberry leaf and violet flowers, showing precision and grace - less Pomerol signature than the warmer vintages, but it is a delicious wine with plenty of life ahead. 35% new oak. Drinking range: 2022 - 2038 Rating: 92 Jane Anson, Decanter (Feb 2022)

The 2011 Nénin has a loose-knit bouquet, almost Burgundy-like in style, with brambly red fruit (raspberry and crushed strawberry) plus a touch of sous-bois. The palate is quite sharp and a little rustic, particularly if you compare it to more superior, recent vintages. Slightly bitter on the finish, this Pomerol should be drunk in the near future. Drinking range: 2021 - 2025 Rating: 86 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Oct 2021)

(a 78/22 blend of merlot and cabernet sauvignon): Purple-ruby. Perfumed aromas of cassis, coffee and minerals. Bright, juicy and suave, with pure black fruit and mineral flavors complicated by a touch of chocolate. High but harmonious acidity gives this wine a graceful mouthfeel, which I find to be a welcome dimension if a bit atypical of Nenin. Finishes smooth and persistent. One of the most promising young Nenins in quite some time. Rating: 88-91 Ian d'Agata, www.vinousmedia.com (May 2012)

Château Nénin

Two things make Château Nenin standout from the rest of Pomerol – at 32ha it is considerably larger than most in in this crowded appellation; and Nenin has a real bona fide 19th Century château at its core rather than the more usual small shed. Infact it appears more along the lines of something one might find in the Haut-Médoc which is perhaps fitting as, since 1987, it has been in common ownership with Château Potensac and the great Saint Julien estate of Château Leoville Las Cases. As one might expect with such a noble stable-mate, quality has advanced rapidly in line with a lot of healthy investment in the estate. The vineyards are planted with 78% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon with an average age of around 30 years. The second wine is Fugue de Nenin.
