Sweeter, riper, denser and 'hairier' than the Charmes. There's rigid minerality, a kind of Giacometti frame. Spicy and long. L&S (Dec 2012)

Possibly a fuller colour but also seems more evolved at first, though this proves to be misleading. The 2011 Mazoyères-Chambertin is a thicker textured wine than the Charmes-Chambertin, but as well as plumper, there is more evidence of a stony character. A few tannins on show, at the finish. Overall this is the less seductive wine of the two, but with much more muscle. The wine grew in the glass and freshened up. Drink from 2025-2032. Tasted: April 2023. Rating: **** Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (May 2023)

Iron, graphite violets, sage and rosemary are some of the many notes that emerge from the Mayozères-Chambertin, one of Perrot-Minot's signature wines. The flavors are remarkably vivid and chiseled in the Mayozères. With time in the glass, a host of bright floral, white pepper and clove notes develop, adding lift to the dark cherry/plum flavors. This is a magnificent, totally complete wine from Christophe Perrot-Minot. 2021-2031 Rating: 95+ Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Apr 2014)

Full, dark red. Redcurrant, iron and a hint of game on the slightly wild nose. More masculine and structured than the Charmes and considerably tighter today, with pepper and spice notes from some whole-cluster fermentation accenting the wine's dark berry flavors. Very tactile, minerally wine with a savory finish and little in the way of easy sweetness. This needs a good six or seven years of patience. Rating: 92 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Mar 2014)

Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
