The 2012 Moulin Saint-Georges is plump, juicy and forward, all of which make it a terrific choice for drinking over the next handful of years. Violets, lavender, spices and blue-fleshed fruits abound. Supple and sensual, with silky tannins and terrific overall balance, the 2012 is showing very well today. Although not the last word in complexity, Moulin Saint-Georges is quite delicious. Drinking range: 2016 - 2024 Rating: 90 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Jan 2016)

The Moulin Saint-Georges is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that was picked on the 11th and 12th October respectively. Apparently there was a little bit of rain that they hoped would stop...but it didn’t. The nose is floral and generous with hints of fruitcake infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a ripe, rounded entry. It is silky smooth and there is beautiful delineation and poise towards the finish as one often founds with this often under-estimated Saint Emilion. Wonderful tension here, mainly thank to the 3.55pH – great persistency. Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2013)

An attractive blueberry and raspberry-scented nose revealing hints of incense and licorice is followed by a medium-bodied, elegant, supple-textured wine from proprietor Alain Vauthier. This seductive, round, easygoing St.-Emilion will have considerable appeal. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. 2013 - 2021 Rating: 87-89 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, www.RobertParker.com (Apr 2013)

Vineyard on the slope up to Pavie. 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc on clay-limestone. Deep dark purple colour. Light, fresh, rather delicate. Fresh and just ripe. 2016 - 2023. Rating: 16.5 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Apr 2013)

Château Moulin Saint Georges

Owned by Alain Vauthier, Château Moulin Saint Georges is situated in Saint-Emilion and covers 7 hectares. The vineyards are well sited on the south-west facing 'Pavie' slope. The average age of the vines on this slope is 26 years old, and they are planted at a density of 6500 vines/hectare. Vauthier believes that the quality of his wine is a direct result of how well the vines are tended to, therefore yields are kept extremely low in order to concentrate the flavour, and all grapes are hand-harvested to ensure only the best grapes are used in production.
