This deep and satisfying baby Brunello is a consistent favourite of ours in the Lea & Sandeman range, offering in this vintage that alluring Sangiovese tart-cherry fruit and easy rasp of tannin and acidity with an earthy, nutty, cherry-pit character and a sprinkle of spice on the finish. Light cherry red. Heady – very ripe Sangiovese without exaggeration. Dry finish. Polished chestnut character. Refined and long. Drinking range: 2015 - 2020 Rating: 16.5 Julia Harding MW, (Nov 2015)

Aristocratic 'baby Brunello’ from a superb producer. All old leather, morello cherries and spice. If you’re going heavy on chestnuts, Parmesan sprouts and spicy nutmeg sausage-meat stuffing on Christmas Day, here’s the wine for you. Otherwise, put it with a steak. (Top Reds for Christmas)Victoria Moore, The Daily Telegraph (Nov 2015)

Sweet and perfumed nose of green pepper, anise and tarragon. Sweet, lush and full palate with notes of seasoned wood and leather. A very different but really attractive expression of Montalcino. Drinking range: 2015 - 2018 Rating: 90 Decanter Magazine (Feb 2015)

Founded in 1923 by Giovanni Fuligni, the estate today is co-owned by Robert Guerrini Fuligni and his delightful aunt Maria Flora Fuligni. Together with his aunt, Roberto makes the wines with oenologist Paola Vagaggini, while agronomist Federico Ricci looks after the vineyards.

The estate covers 100 hectares, of which 25 are under vine, almost all planted with Sangiovese, with a small amount of Merlot for the IGT blend. 4 plots, Semiti, San Giovanni, Ginestreto and Cotimeli produce Sangiovese for the Brunelli and Rosso and each vineyard is kept separate during fermentation. What is important is the combined height of the vineyards (350-440m), the density of planting, age of the vines (12-30 plus) and the 'galestro' soils on which they are planted. Fuligni's wines have reached international recognition for their purity of expression, strong backbone of acidity and polished tannins.

These are simply the finest wines of Brunello, epitomising all that is great from the region. The 'Rosso' now comes from a defined part of the vineyard, on clay and tufa rather than the marl of the Brunello. It is made from the outset as a Rosso, with different clones and the intention to make a wine which will be approachable at a much younger age.
