Like the Chevrets, but with a touch more feral density and a more demanding structure and length. L&S (Jan 2014)

(from vines at the beginning of the slope): Good deep red. Reserved aromas of medicinal black cherry, smoke, leather and chocolate. Rich and fine-grained but laid-back, showing an attractive combination of sucrosite and salinity. Most impressive today on the subtle back end, which features very refined tannins and sneaky building length. Rating: 91-93 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Dec 2014)

Here the more expressive nose is a bit more elegant though it is also quite deeply pitched with its array of cassis, anise, plum and earth scents. There is excellent concentration and even power to the seductively textured if distinctly firm middle weight flavors that culminate in a dusty and lingering finish that also displays a touch of youthful asperity. 2019+ Rating: 89 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Apr 2014)

Violets, licorice, blueberries and graphite are some of the many notes that take shape in the 2012 Volnay Les Santenots. There is more than enough structure to support the fruit in a dramatic, large-scaled Burgundy that captures the essence of the year in its explosive personality. This intense, powerful Volnay need serious time in the cellar. A generous, beautifully resonant finish rounds things off. Drinking range: 2019 - 2032 Rating: 93-95 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Jan 2014)

Domaine Henri Boillot

A domaine which dates to 1885, but which began properly in the early years of the 20th century under the current Henri's grandfather (also Henri). His son, Jean, was the one who really developed it. Henri arrived in 1975 and worked his way up, becoming the winemaker. In 2000 he began the building of the new winery at the bottom of Meursault, and he then bought out his brother and sister to keep the domaine as one, renaming it from 'Domaine Jean Boillot' to 'Domaine Henri Boillot' to avoid confusion with his brother Jean-Marc's domaine.

The Domaine totals around 14 hectares, with roughly equal surfaces of red and white, and of which just under 4ha is the Monopole vineyard of Clos de la Mouchère, a walled enclave within the premier Cru Puligny Perrières. The 2017 vintage saw the arrival of two new parcels of Grand Cru red, in Échezeaux and Latricières Chambertin
