After the comparative softness of the 'Maréchaudes' this Bressandes shows much more black fruit depth, silky and persuasive. A lovely clear expression of richness and then the classic restraint too, with a twist of tannin and mineral. Lovely balance of these elements. Drinking range: 2022 - 2028 L&S (Nov 2014)

The 2013 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru, which contains no SO2 and uses a pneumatic press, has a very attractive nose with brambly red fruit, undergrowth and morels. Wild mint emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit and brittle tannins. It's fresh and lively but very linear and tight on the finish. What this does have is freshness and a sapid finish. What you call a "vertical" Pinot Noir. Very classy. Drinking range: 2022 - 2035 Rating: 92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Nov 2022)

Full, dark red. Urgent primary red fruit and sandalwood aromas suggest a distinctly exotic carbonic maceration quality that reminded me of Beaujolais. More classic on the palate: broad, spicy and dry, with superb aromatic perfume to the flavors of red fruits, earth and crushed stone. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and a captivating light touch. Drinking range: 2023 - 2034 Rating: 92 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Mar 2016)

(from three separate plantings that have an average vine age of ~35 years). This too is quite reduced yet from barely perceptible fruit seems fresh. As is usually the case there is slightly finer mouth feel to the broadshouldered flavors that also possess fine mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a firmly structured but not hard finish. This is youthfully austere with just a hint of rusticity and this too will definitely require patience. 2025+ Rating: 91-93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Apr 2015)

Domaine Chandon de Briailles

One of the great family domaines of the Côte d'Or, housed in the remarkable manor house at Savigny, with excellent holdings in Savigny itself and in neighbouring Pernand and on the hill of Corton. Organic since 1988 and, now, biodynamic (fully certified by Demeter and Ecocert). It is run by brother and sister François and Claude de Nicolaÿ. As François explains, they do not make 'bêtes de concours' or competition wines, but ones you drink. They have over the last few years progressed the renewal of the barrels of the domaine - there is still very little actual new wood, 5% new wood on the premiers crus, and 10% on the Grands crus, but they have replaced the oldest barrels which they have come to understand did have an effect of closing the wines down.
