Tasted after the intensity of the Volnay Caillerets, this at first seems quite smiley, sweet and supple for a Rugiens, but the density and power is here too. The powerful tannins build to a roar of red and black fruit intensity, and some classy structure on the finish. Really excellent. Drinking range: 2020 - L&S (Nov 2014)

Medium red, a bit less saturated than the Volnay Caillerets and Chevrets. Sexy aromas of raspberry, smoke, dried rose and rust, with a hint of peppery herbs that carries onto the palate. Red fruit and spice flavors show little in the way of easy sweetness, owing to the wine's saline character and firm underlying structure. Turned increasingly juicy with air, opening out nicely on the back end. This needs time in bottle but already reveals plenty of personality. Drinking range: 2018 - 2029 Rating: 91 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Mar 2016)

(from equally sized parcels in both Rugiens Hauts and Bas that measure ~1 ha). A cool, airy and exceptionally pretty nose demonstrates notes of red cherry and raspberry, floral, anise and soft earth scents. There is more volume but interestingly also more precision to the broad-shouldered and voluminous flavors that exhibit plenty of minerality on the complex, long and powerful finish. The level of dry extract is impressive and while the balance isn’t perfect this should still make for lovely drinking in time. 2023+ Rating: 92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Apr 2015)

Fairly pale crimson. Medium intensity nose with some suggestion of forest-floor aromas. Medium weight but very fine tannins and good purity. Really quite a racy Rugiens with excellent balance and a refreshing but not lean finish. Drinking range: 2020 - 2030 Rating: 17 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2015)
