Openly aromatic, showing ripe and with a lovely enveloping, appetising yellow fruit - ripe peach - but also a calls to mind fine leather in aroma as well a the supple, rich feel. Immense class, balance and length. Drinking range: 2017 - 2022 L&S (Nov 2014)

Domaine Henri Boillot
A top producer for red and white alike. Henri and his son Guillaume have now moved all the vinification and élevage out of Volnay entirely in order to have all the wine in one place (down on the plain in Meursault). Not so 'folklorique', but a better tool to reach even higher quality levels. After six years working alongside Henri, Guillaume has been entirely responsible for the vinification of the reds since 2013 - Henri's contribution is henceforth entirely on the whites, but one senses this is really Guillaume's show now. Guillaume's major input on the reds was to end the practice of autmatically de-stemming everything - there is now some use of whole bunches and the wines have gained in definition and energy as a result, without losing the luxurious velvety richness and fruit depth that they have always had.
Medium straw-yellow. Musky aromas of peach, apricot and ginger; more soil-driven and less exotic than the village Puligny. Supple, silky and highly concentrated, offering extremely smooth flavors of stone fruits and flowers. An outstanding 2013 with a very long, pliant back end. Boillot describes this as "the best wine of the cave in 2013." He allowed the wine to settle in cuve for two months, including a month following the fining, "to de-stress the wine," bottling it last December. (from 60+ year old vines and the vineyard is a whopping 4 ha monopole within Perrières). The restrained nose of ultra-pure, airy and cool notes of white flower, pear, green apple and freshly sliced citrus fruit is trimmed in barely discernible hints of pain grillé. The driving middle weight flavors possess good richness though the firm acid spine is such that there is no lack of detail or delineation to the lilting and seductively-textured finish that is dry, beautifully persistent and slightly austere. Pale light yellow. Sexy aromas and flavors of peach, acacia flower, smoke and clove. Rich in extract, smooth and dry (under one gram per liter r.s.), gaining thickness toward the back without any loss of harmony. Utterly smooth, extract-rich wine with superb persistence.
