SOLAIA

2013 Marchesi Antinori

EN PRIMEUR

Curiously herby-minty nose, then very austere and tight on the palate. Classical, grand, rather in a Lafite idiom; fascinating. It is not massive in body and one understands the winemaker Renzo Cotarella's remark that 'it takes a lot of confidence to make a less structured wine'. Very intense and there's not much in the way of hedonism in the mid-palate for now, but the finish is spectacularly long, popping with spice and fruit and interest, so that there seems no real doubt that this is going to be great in time.L&S (Sept 2016)

Wow. This is a stylish young red with currant, light herb, spice and bark aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh finish. Balanced and attractive now but better in 2020. A classic as always. Rating: 97 James Suckling, The Wine Spectator (Jul 2016)

The Antinori family has been making wine for over six hundred years, since Giovanni di Piero Antinori became part of the Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri in 1385. Throughout their long history, spanning 26 generations, the family has always personally managed the business making innovative, sometimes courageous choices, always with unwavering respect for tradition and the land. They are also considered producers of 'Super Tuscan' wines. Today Marchese Piero Antinori is director of the company, assisted by his three daughters, Albiera, Allegra and Alessia. Tenuta Tignanello, with its famous Tignanello and Solaia vineyards, is situated between the Greve and Pesa valleys in the heart of Chianti Classico exactly between the little villages of Monteridolfi and Santa Maria a Macerata, 30km south of Florence.
