2013 'Limestone' Essenheim Weingut Braunewell
Spätburgunder, the German name for Pinot Noir, has really started to come through as a must have for any discerning wine rack. This is an outstanding example; light and bright with loads of charm. Knocks the socks off most Burgundian Pinots as this price with its superior elegance and style. L&S (Dec 2017)
*Case Price: Mix any 12 bottles of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.
François Breiniville fled 17th Century France's Huguenot persecution to settle in Essenheim, just south west of Mainz. It took until the 1960's for Adam Braunewell to start bottling the wines from his family's vineyards and, today, he helps his children and grandchildren run this excellent estate and tend their flagship vineyards of Blume and Teufelspfad (the Devil's path!)
This Offbeat Case is a great present idea for a curious wine-lover. More than that it is a fantastic selection of delicious wines we have unearthed on our travels - all that will deliver great pleasure over Christmas. There is so much to discover in this eclectic case - you will not want it to end. The quality and tastes may not be risqué - but this is still one for the adventurous.
From barely registering with wine drinkers outside Germany, Spätburgunder has suddenly become the must have filler for the discerning wine rack. As with all good Pinot Noirs, they are lighter brighter more charming red wines with elegance and style. Tuck into our tasty little quartet - three from the Braunewell family in the Rheinhessen and one super value from a little further south in the Rheinpfalz.
