From the top of les Beaumonts, on the rock. Super colour. Nose confused, not leaping out, but the palate weight is the is a crystalline purity of directed, mineral fruit - lovely. Tannins consistent withthe rock underneath - chalk-fine. Super-long finish in which all is integrated into one rather glorious whole. Lots of natural richness here, and the length is impressive. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts has a tightly wound bouquet, dark plum and raspberry fruit, a touch of blackberry, the oak nicely integrated although it is staying inside its shell for the time being. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red cherry and raspberry fruit, the tannins finer than I was anticipating, the acidity well judged as it segues into a backward but focused, quite structured finish. Christophe Perrot-Minot's Beaux Monts has very good potential. Drinking range: 2020 - 2038 Rating: 92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Sep 2016)
Wiry, tense and energetic, the 2013 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts is highly representative of the year. Dark red and purplish-hued fruit, cherry pit, flowers mint and crushed rocks open up in the glass, but today, the 2013 is mostly about texture. The precise, floral, lifted style is hugely appealing, although the wine is going to need at least a few years in bottle to fully come together. Distinct notes of stoniness linger on the close. Drinking range: 2020 - 2033 Rating: 91-93 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Apr 2015)
(from the rocky part of the cru, according to Perrot-Minot): Bright, dark red. Raspberry, mocha and gunflint on the nose, complicated by licorice and spices. Concentrated and sappy, showing more density and depth--if less early finesse--than the Fuées. I like this wine's combination of sweetness and spiciness. Finishes with a piquant suggestion of pomegranate. Drinking range: 2022 - 2032 Rating: 91-93 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Jan 2015)
Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot
Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” Visit Website
