2014 Pinot Noir Two Rivers of Marlborough
|Origin||New Zealand, South Island|
Only 10 very special barrels (coopers: Ana Selection, Sylvain, Mercurey) were classed superior enough to make the ‘Altitude’ blend. 80% of the fruit was from Ward, the southern most village in the Awatere Valley (Francis vineyard) with clay rich soils. The remainder of the fruit was from the Wairau Valley (Rive Vineyard). This wine offers an insight into the Two Rivers’ philosophy of being at the forefront of super premium winemaking with a dedication to finding the extremely unique and special micro climates hidden deep in the valleys of this world famous winegrowing region.Dark ruby/purple in colour. The nose is deep and layered with vanilla bean and toasty aromas mingled with violet and boysenberry. This is a rich, full-bodied pinot noir, bursting with succulent boysenberry and blue fruit. The wine was aged in 40% new oak, giving smoky, savoury flavours. Great with roast lamb, pork cassoulet, puy lentils, porcini mushrooms. Drinking range: 2017 - 2022 Winemaker's notes (Mar 2017)
*Case Price: Mix any 12 bottles of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.
Two Rivers of Marlborough
David Clouston is originally from Marlborough, and after 22 vintages abroad from Oregon to Chile, Corsica to Alsace, he returned home and set about exploring the valleys and diverse terroirs of Marlborough. The main production is the Sauvignon made from fruit from both the Awatere and Wairau river valleys, whence the 'Two Rivers of Marlborough' name, but his hillside Pinot Noir is showing great potential.
