Grapes Pinot Noir

Origin France, Burgundy
District Côte Chalonnaise
Village Bourgogne Rouge
ABV 13%

If you're after Burgundy with plenty of 'juice' then this is the bottle for you. It's full of joyous, fresh fromboise fruit and bright acidity. Far from being one dimensional, there is impressive mid-palate weight and length, born of François's older vines and relatively low yields. This is so far from your average 'entry level' Burgundy. Enjoy it with food or as an immensely drinkable evening tipple. Drinking range: 2017 - 2023 Rating: 89-89 L&S (Aug 2018)

*Case price: Mix any 12 bottles of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.

Scented mulberry and raspberry fruit on the nose, palate is fresh and delivers lovely red fruit core, decent grip of ripe tannins good acidity and length.L&S(Nov 2015)

Not for the first time we've been hugely impressed by Mercurey grower François Raquillet's basic Bourgogne. Far from being basic, it's a Pinot Noir of vibrancy, purity and finesse, with a floral, spicy Pinot nose, flowing sweet raspberry fruit and delicate nuttiness. Rating: 90 2017)

Domaine François Raquillet

François took over the running of this estate from his father, Jean, in 1984, and records show that the same family have made wine in Mercurey since the 1600s. With eleven hectares under vine, François has substantially reduced yields, introduced higher quality oak barrels and significantly increased the quality of wines made at this domaine. Francois explains he tries to avoid over-extraction at all costs - his one aim is to deliver the beautifully pure fruit profile he gets out of the old vines - this he does with great success. It is a wonderfully transparent style- combined with good mid-palate weight.

BURGUNDY - the Côte de Beaune

A fine selection from the majestic slopes of the Côte de Beaune.

BURGUNDY selection

Just when you think Burgundy is getting a tad expensive, some other upward pressures are applied to prices - small yields and a weak Sterling are the current factors. Luckily for you, there are merchants out there (or here, to be precise) with the nouse to seek out good value even in a region where good value can feel hard to come by. Here's a fine old selection, red and white, all with prices south of £20 a bottle - not necessarily a price to tempt the less discerning away from the discount supermarket but it does mean that us ordinary mortals can still afford to drink Burgundy.

Christmas Red Burgundy Case

If there’s one perfect Christmas grape variety, it’s Pinot Noir. The juicy berry fruit is the perfect foil for the Christmas turkey (or goose, or beef joint); the lush seduction is perfect for quiet evenings with loved ones; the class and distinction is perfect for refined dinner parties; and, it tastes bloody nice too. The apogée of Pinot Noir is, of course, Burgundy but fine examples are to be found in selected plots of loveliness around the globe.

Good with Grouse' Mixed Six

Here's a handy 'good with grouse' dinner party mixed six. It's chock full of juicy, aromatic Pinot that's guaranteed to impress your guests, even if the bird emerges from the oven a little dark and crispy! We've even plucked £20 off the price and it's free delivery so there's never been a better opportunity to host an autumnal gathering.
