CHÂTEAU DU CÈDRE
2014 Cahors Pascal Verhaeghe
|Origin||France, South West|
This is an organic wine from the French heartlands that’s big in flavour, big in taste and big in quality. From the Verhaeghe family-owned Château du Cèdre, where the malbec grapes are grown on deep-rooted vines, this vintage benefited from a hot and dry summer, producing a wine with intense dark fruit flavours offset by a flinty minerality. Can be enjoyed now or kept for up to 10 years. (From '15 Best Malbec wines', The Independent) Drinking range: 2018 - 2028 John Clarke (Feb 2018)
*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles (or 9l equivalent) of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.
Spicy black-currant aromas on the nose and intense in juicy black fruit on the dense palate. The rich, generous layers of fruit perfectly balance the tannins that build up to a harmonious whole. Rating: 93 The Wine Enthusiast www.winemag.com(Feb 2018)
Chateau du Cèdre, widely regarded as one of Cahors' leading estate, is the domaine of brothers Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe. Pascal, a mathematician at heart who came to winemaking later in life, is the driving force here. Although the son of a winemaker - his father founded the domaine in 1956 - he took little interest in the daily running of the vineyards and making wines until his experiences in Burgundy, making wines with Jean-Marie Guffens, swayed his opinion.
