Surprisingly grown up feel to this. Four square and broad with quite prominent tannin framing some good deep fruit. Dense and tight for now - but will unfurl in the medium term. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. Rating: 90 L&S (Apr 2015)

The 2014 Haut-Bergey has a fine bouquet: blackberry, graphite and tobacco, a hint of singed leather in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with solid, quite firm tannin, very peppery but there is the fruit substance to support all that and the finish that is akin to a Saint Estèphe. It will require several years to soften but should be worth the wait. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. Drinking range: 2020 - 2035 Rating: 90+ Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Apr 2018)

Sweeter than its peers. Juicy but not especially concentrated or interesting. Very drying end. Drinking range: 2023 - 2031 Rating: 15.5 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Feb 2018)

The Château Haut-Bergey 2014 is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot (though is pinch of Petit Verdot according Hélène Garçin-Léveque) raised in 30% new oak. It has a lot of ripeness on the nose, quite “full-on” in style and showing just a little sur-maturité. The palate is better, reining the opulence of the aromatics in with quite dense blackberry and raspberry fruit with commendable delineation on the finish. It just needs to contain that over-enthusiasm on the nose. Drinking range: 2018 - 2030 Rating: 89-91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2015)
