District Right Bank
Sub-district Saint Emilion & Satellites

From Denis Durantou’s newest vineyard, which is in the Côtes de Castillon, he calls it his second best terroir after the L'Eglise Clinet vineyards. This delicious wine is made up of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Full of beautifully ripe fruit, very good grip and pinch from super, sexy tannin. Seriously enjoyable, recommended. Drinking range: 2018 - 2025 Rating: 91 L&S (Mar 2015)

The 2014 Montlandrie is gorgeous. Dark, sensual and inviting, it offers up a compelling mélange of dark red cherry, sage, tobacco, menthol and licorice. Pliant and expressive, this is a terrific choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Drinking range: 2017 - 2024 Rating: 91 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Feb 2017)

A powerful, explosive wine, the 2014 Montlandrie boasts notable depth and intensity. Sweet black cherries, mocha, smoke, tobacco, licorice, menthol and tar burst onto the palate. There is plenty of density in the glass, but the silky tannins help balance some of the slightly rustic elements that come through from time to time. The blend is 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Rating: 89-91 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (May 2015)

The Château Montlandrie 2014, Denis Durantou’s Côtes de Castillon vineyard, is a blend of 90% Merlot picked September 24-29 and 10% Cabernet Franc picked October 23-24. Matured in 50% new oak, it has a generous bouquet that takes its time to get going in the glass, eventually revealing blackberry and briary scents. The palate is medium-bodied with just the right amount of fleshiness here to balance the chalky tannins; mulberry and white pepper vivifying the finish. This is a subtle Montlandrie, one imbued with Durantous’s art. Drinking range: 2016 - 2024 Rating: 89-91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2015)

Château Montlandrie

Among the brightest stars of the exalted Pomerol appellation is Denis Durantou at Château l’Eglise-Clinet. A little further south-east, across the boundary in the Côtes de Castillon is Château Montlandrie that Denis bought in 2009. Much renovation has taken place at the 12ha vineyard that includes, almost uniquely for the Right Bank, new plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon that now make up 15% of the vineyard alongside the usual 65% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
