40% whole bunch. Rich and full nose, palate too. A big harmonious mouthful which is a little slow to reveal. Class is here, the fruit is clinging on the finish, although in true Nuits style, the tannins cling even more. Drinking range: 2023 - L&S (Nov 2015)

This is spicy and more up-toned on the nose than the 2015. Quite perfumed. Violets. A straighter palate than the 2015. The tannins are very obvious at the moment, dominating. They are sturdy and strong. It maybe in bottle shock after the bottling 6 months ago. Good level of freshness. There is plenty of energy here. Less richness to the texture and just moderate depth of fruit. There is not quite the concentration of fruit to envelop the sturdy tannins at the moment. Very bright at the end. Drinking range: 2023 - Rating: 18 Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing (Dec 2017)

Bright medium red. Sexy high-pitched perfume of raspberry, rose petal, chocolate and red licorice. Sappy but youthfully imploded on the palate, but already displaying outstanding definition and lift to its berry, spice and mint flavors. This is at another level in terms of its sheer energy. The tannins are firm but fully ripe and the finish perfumes the mouth and stimulates the taste buds. Drinking range: 2025 - 2037 Rating: 93+ Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Mar 2017)

Some strange mossiness on the nose. Tough and pretty astringent on the palate. Dry finish. Not much fun at the moment with a strange spicy undertow. Drinking range: 2020 - 2030 Rating: 16 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2016)

Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair

Thibault Liger-Belair has two hectares in Les Saint Georges, the vineyard which gives Nuits the rest of its name, and 60 ares out of a total of 4 hectares of the Grand Cru Richebourg, as well as a good holding in the Clos Vougeot and some well-placed village wines. The vineyards are a good start, but it is Thibault himself who has catapulted this domaine straight into the very top echelons of Côte de Nuits domaines from his first vintage (2002). Thibault was trained as an oenologist but first worked as a wine buyer. He has come to wine making with a wide experience of wine buying, and has had the advantage of having discussed wine-making for many years, with the benefit of his oenological background, with some of the best winemakers of the world. Viticulture is biodynamic (since 2005), yields low but not ludicrously low, everything is pragmatic, so that he should be doing just what is necessary and no more. He uses 40-50% new wood maximum. The wines are bright, pure, focused, aromatic and elegant without lacking anything in the way of stuffing.
