At the foot of the slope next to Premier Cru Bousselots, just to the north of the town of Nuits. Fine to start, then fills out with quite an interesting breadth of complex wild-berry and forest-floor flavours. Suave Vosne-like tannins. Drinking range: 2020 - L&S (Nov 2015)

*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles (or 9l equivalent) of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.

Bright, dark red. A basket of dark berries on the nose, plus a complicating element of smoky oak. At once juicy and smooth, showing lovely floral lift to its flavors of dark berries and licorice. Finishes with firm but fine-grained tannins and very good persistence, leaving behind slightly inky violet and licorice notes. This wine could probably be enjoyed already with a meat dish. Drinking range: 2019 - 2026 Rating: 90 Stephen Tanzer, 2017)

Rating: 91 Tim Atkin MW, 2016)

(a little seen villages that is situated on the Vosne side just beneath the 1er Bousselots; 40% whole clusters). A relatively elegant nose offers up notes of various red berries that are liberally laced with floral, earth and spice nuances. There is very good volume to the generously proportioned mid-palate that immediately tightens up on the linear, tight and focused finish that is both austere and mildly rustic. This is also going to require a few years of cellar time to shed some structure and round out. (88-91)/2022+ Drinking range: - 2022 Rating: 88-91 Allen Meadows, 2016)

The 2014 Nuits St Georges la Charmotte, from vines located on the north side of the village next to les Bousselots, has an open nose with brambly red berry fruit and subtle earthy tones. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, the 40% whole cluster lending freshness, although I would like a little more precision towards the finish. Drinking range: 2017 - 2027 Rating: 87-89 Neal Martin, 2015)

Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair

Thibault Liger-Belair has two hectares in Les Saint Georges, the vineyard which gives Nuits the rest of its name, and 60 ares out of a total of 4 hectares of the Grand Cru Richebourg, as well as a good holding in the Clos Vougeot and some well-placed village wines. The vineyards are a good start, but it is Thibault himself who has catapulted this domaine straight into the very top echelons of Côte de Nuits domaines from his first vintage (2002). Thibault was trained as an oenologist but first worked as a wine buyer. He has come to wine making with a wide experience of wine buying, and has had the advantage of having discussed wine-making for many years, with the benefit of his oenological background, with some of the best winemakers of the world. Viticulture is biodynamic (since 2005), yields low but not ludicrously low, everything is pragmatic, so that he should be doing just what is necessary and no more. He uses 40-50% new wood maximum. The wines are bright, pure, focused, aromatic and elegant without lacking anything in the way of stuffing.
