This really is a superb vintage of this wine, so much to love in the more traditional Rioja style here, liquorice, coffee, meat juices, leather, redcurrants, herbs and cedar. We discovered this small, modern, winery in the heart of Rioja Alta about fifteen years ago and we continue to be struck by the exceptional quality of the fruit and the wine-making here. Bodegas Ruconia was founded in 1986 and have nearly 20 HA of vineyards around the villages of Cenicero and Urunuela, they first came onto our radar in the early 2000's, just after their new state of the art winery was built in 2001. The family have always combined very high quality wine, with extraordinarily attractive pricing, the perfect marriage! These have become a firm favourite and some of our best selling red wines from Spain, year after year.
Rioja Mixed Case
If you thought all Rioja was much the same - think again. This case will take you on a tour of the exciting, evolving landscape here. From the bigger, more traditional mellowness of Ruconia’s Reserva with its long barrel ageing, via the light bright and crisp elegance of Sandra Bravo's high altitude Sierra do Tolono, to the more exuberant full on fruit led style of the Artuke wines, this selection encompasses so much of what is exciting and tasty about Rioja. Rioja - it may have been around for years, but it's bang up to date.
