The estate's flagship Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) from the brilliantly named Teufelspfad or 'Devil's Path' vineyard. Deep ruby, this impresses from the first - a lovely balance of ripe fruit and barrel development, quite full in the mid-palate and then fanning out with fine tannins and suave fruit flavours taking the lead. The finish is long and serene. L&S (Mar 2017)

Rich but not sweet. Good serious stuff. A little raw and rusty on the end. Drinking range: 2018 - 2022 Rating: 16+ Jancis Robinson MW OBE - www.JancisRobinson.com(Oct 2017)
François Breiniville fled 17th Century France's Huguenot persecution to settle in Essenheim, just south west of Mainz. It took until the 1960's for Adam Braunewell to start bottling the wines from his family's vineyards and, today, he helps his children and grandchildren run this excellent estate and tend their flagship vineyards of Blume and Teufelspfad (the Devil's path!)
