Vineyard Fremiets

Smoky nose, a faintly singed fruit coal-black expression (they always say Fremiets is a hot corner). Lots going on, pure and quite 'masculine', as Guillaume calls it. Drinking range: 2018 - L&S (Nov 2015)

*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles of wine (or 9 litre equivalent) or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits, Sweet Wine or Fortified (4.5 litres) to get the discounted 'case price' for each bottle.

There is enough reduction present to push the underlying fruit to the background and render the nose difficult to assess. Otherwise there is an opulent mouth feel to the impressively concentrated middle weight flavors that exhibit plenty of minerality on the sleek, intense and palate coating finale. Note that my score offers the benefit of the doubt that the reduction will dissipate with a few years of bottle age. 2022+ Rating: 92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Apr 2016)

Bright, dark red. Wild, reduced, very ripe aromas of raspberry, redcurrant, smoked meat, animal fur and chocolate. Sweet and round but with a continuing reductive quality keeping the middle palate closed today. Darker fruits here but with a bit of the sour edge shown by the village wine. Finishes with slightly edgy tannins. In an awkward stage today. Rating: 88-90 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Jan 2016)

Open fruit and not the noblest nor the longest living but with lots of sweet, slightly oaky charm. Drinking range: 2018 - 2024 Rating: 16.5 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2016)

Domaine Henri Boillot

A domaine which dates to 1885, but which began properly in the early years of the 20th century under the current Henri's grandfather (also Henri). His son, Jean, was the one who really developed it. Henri arrived in 1975 and worked his way up, becoming the winemaker. In 2000 he began the building of the new winery at the bottom of Meursault, and he then bought out his brother and sister to keep the domaine as one, renaming it from 'Domaine Jean Boillot' to 'Domaine Henri Boillot' to avoid confusion with his brother Jean-Marc's domaine.

The Domaine totals around 14 hectares, with roughly equal surfaces of red and white, and of which just under 4ha is the Monopole vineyard of Clos de la Mouchère, a walled enclave within the premier Cru Puligny Perrières. The 2017 vintage saw the arrival of two new parcels of Grand Cru red, in Échezeaux and Latricières Chambertin
