BENANTI ETNA ROSSO

2015

Grapes Nerello Cappucio, Nerello Mascalese
Colour Red
Origin Italy, Sicily
ABV 13%

The 2015 Etna Rosso is a traditional blend of 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio. Thanks to this blend, the color intensity of the wine shows a deeper ruby color. This is a streamlined and elegant wine with wild berry aromas, anise seed, dark mineral and crushed flint. The finish is slightly salty and the tannins are snappy and firm. Fruit is sourced from three sides of the volcano (the northern, southeast and southwest slopes) from parcels that range from 450 to 900 meters above sea level. Drinking range: 2017 - 2024 Rating: 89 Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate (www.robertparker.com) (Sept 2017)

Benanti

Giuseppe Benanti Jr re-established the Benanti winery on the slopes of Mount Etna in the late 1980's. The family were gifted land there back in the 1730's by a grateful King Victor Amedeos II, but the business had fizzled out in the mid-20th Century. The family now own 14ha of vineyard in carefully selected sites on the mountain, and manage a further 10ha, and have assembled a healthy reputation for some of Sicily's finest wines.
