2015 Grand Cru Les Clos Domaine Drouhin Vaudon
Véronique was at pains to re-emphasize that at Drouhin-Vaudon they now use large 500l barrels and no new wood. Gorgeous creamy-soft weight of vinous fruit and richness. Exquisitely pure. Very ripe, and also very bright and lifted. Drinking range: 2021 - 2025 L&S (Nov 2016)
*Case price: Mix any 12 bottles of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.
The 2015 Chablis Grand Cru les Clos has developed a subtle marine influence on the nose since I tasted it a few months ago. It is well defined and focused with fresh pear and green apple, though maybe the Vaudésir is prettier this vintage. The palate is sappy and quite saline on the entry, with nicely-judged acidity and a little resinous toward the finish. As I mentioned before, it does not possess the attack of the 2014, yet it should still give another decade of drinking pleasure. Drinking range: 2018 - 2029 Rating: 91 Neal Martin, www.robertparker.com (Sep 2017)
Fabulous aromas of stones, apples and orange zest. Full body, great density and wonderful energy. Fruit and everything there. Complexity, too. Drink or hold. Drinking range: 2017 - Rating: 96-97 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Apr 2017)
All fermented in large old oak (they tried a stainless steel portion but didn’t like it.) Very fine, dense nose - utterly true to fine Chablis. Mouth-filling and very ripe. A big Clos! Flattering and relatively open. Drinking range: 2018 - 2030 Rating: 17 Jancis Robinson MW OBE - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2017)
The 2015 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudesir was picked on September 7. It has a clean and precise bouquet, certainly a level up in terms of terroir expression compared to the Premier Crus, with chalk and slate developing. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, nicely balanced, although like some of Drouhin Vaudon's other 2015 Chablis, it is missing some complexity on what feels like a rather innocuous finish. Hopefully it will develop more personality during the remainder of its time in barrel. Drinking range: 2017 - 2029 Rating: 91-91 Neal Martin, www.robertparker.com (Dec 2016)
Domaine Drouhin Vaudon
Founded in Beaune in 1880, under the name Maison Joseph Drouhin, the domaine has been built up over the years with the addition of new parcels in the Burgundy region and now comprises 73 hectares of vineyards, more than 2/3 of which are classified as Premier and Grands Crus. It is one of the largest estates in the region, and is now also the largest estate in Chablis entirely given over to biodynamic cultivation. Since 2008, the name 'Vaudron' has been associated with all Joseph Drouhin wines from the Chablis region as a sign of the firm's "allegiance to the terroir" and homage to the Moulin de Vaudron, the home of Joseph Drouhin.
