Absolutely gorgeous nose - concentrated, ripe apples and grapefruit, a hint of freshly baked pastries, underpinned with a mineral, salty edge. The texture and 'feel' on the palate is wonderful - very serious, linear with a driving backbone of acidity, but with the same remarkable concentration of creamy fruit and biscuity complexity. Long, smooth and delicious - this is a very smart wine and a joy. L&S (Jul 2022)

Dosage 7.5g/L

69 months on lees (just under six years). Disgorged February 2022.

In the vineyard: cool year, late bud burst, reasonable flowering giving average yields. July was warm with August to October cooler giving a very late harvest, the latest ever. Finished picking Chardonnay on 10th November.

Tasting note: clean fresh nose with bruised apples, warm brioche and grapefruit pith. The palate is rich and textured, showing signs of some development with hot buttered toast and touches of nutty caramel, and linear acidity piercing through to a long fine finish
Winemaker's notes (Jul 2022)

Squerryes

‘Licet Esse Beatis’: it is permitted to be joyful. This motto, that adorns the doorway to the Squerryes Estate, could not be more fitting of the wines.

From this corner of the North Downs, often overlooked in winemaking with the more famous South Downs stealing the limelight, the Warde family first noticed the potential in the estate and planted vines here in 2006. A geological survey had confirmed that the chalk escarpment had qualities similar to the esteemed 'Côte des Blancs' region of Champagne.

The only use their own grapes, and the base wines that are blended into the cuvée are aged for the lees for extended periods, creating incredible complexity in the wines.

The wines are extremely smart and beautifully complex, offering masses of autolytic layering with a gorgeous line of fresh acidity.
