Seven barrels where he would normally make thirty, thanks to hail. Fresh, sweet, supple. Dark fruit and humus flavours, with a lovely top edge which keeps it vibrant. Drinking range: 2020 - 2025 L&S (Nov 2016)

The 2015 Volnay Les Fremiets 1er Cru is another wine that is initially reduced on the nose, although this dissipates to a degree with time. It develops lovely raspberry, crushed strawberry and orange blossom scents that become very detailed and focused. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, nice poise and energy, and fine tension building toward a vivacious finish replete with red fruit, blood orange and just a hint of beet. What a wonderful Volnay! Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Drinking range: 2020 - 2035 Rating: 92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Nov 2018)

Good full red. More brooding, medicinal aromas of redcurrant, dark cherry, spices and earth, complicated by sexy pepper and floral notes that do not come from stems; much more Pommard in style than the Chevrets, which is situated on the opposite, Meursault side of Volnay. Broad, rich, spicy and deep; this plump yet vinous wine conveys the compelling sweetness of the year with perfectly integrated acidity. Finishes very long and spicy, with horizontal, mouthcoating tannins and palate-saturating sweet and savory elements. Rating: 92 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Jan 2018)

This is slightly riper than the Chevrets though it remains quite fresh with its aromas of plum liqueur, spice and soft floral nuances. There is exceptional richness to the concentrated, suave and highly seductive flavors that are shaped by a firm lashing of tannin on the ever-so-mildly warm finish. Note that this will require at least some patience. 92/2025+ Drinking range: - 2025 Rating: 92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Apr 2017)

Domaine Henri Boillot

A domaine which dates to 1885, but which began properly in the early years of the 20th century under the current Henri's grandfather (also Henri). His son, Jean, was the one who really developed it. Henri arrived in 1975 and worked his way up, becoming the winemaker. In 2000 he began the building of the new winery at the bottom of Meursault, and he then bought out his brother and sister to keep the domaine as one, renaming it from 'Domaine Jean Boillot' to 'Domaine Henri Boillot' to avoid confusion with his brother Jean-Marc's domaine.

The Domaine totals around 14 hectares, with roughly equal surfaces of red and white, and of which just under 4ha is the Monopole vineyard of Clos de la Mouchère, a walled enclave within the premier Cru Puligny Perrières. The 2017 vintage saw the arrival of two new parcels of Grand Cru red, in Échezeaux and Latricières Chambertin
