2016 Saint Julien

Sub-district Haut Médoc
Village Saint Julien
ABV 13%

Well, this really is a very delicious Saint Julien! By Bordeaux standards, at just 5.5 Hectares - this is almost artisan in scale and philosophy too, but the wine is very sophisticated indeed. The 2016 jumps out of the glass with a joyous Bordeaux hit. Generous and intense, the red fruit is bright and yet just plump enough. There's a delicious grainy plum-flesh hit that adds depth and texture. It's all held together nicely by some smart wood notes, a whiff of Asian spice and a gently firm line of fine grip that you want in your smart Claret. This may be a small production, but it is almost perfectly formed and is well worth seeking out for lovers of classically framed St Julien with a well-balanced, satisfying middle. L&S (Nov 2020)
