A surprising heft of blueberry, blackberry and damson make way for a palate which has sinew and grip yet allows the fruit and spice to weave around it and deliver a lot of wine for such a small price. Drinking range: 2017 - 2020 L&S (Sept 2017)

At this age, the 2016 Le Clos is redolent of mocha and blueberries but edgy and tannic. This medium to full-bodied blend of 45% Merlot, 20% Carignan, 20% Grenache and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon deserves a year or two in the cellar to settle down, after which the texture should become more appealing and the oak more integrated. Drinking range: 2018 - 2023 Rating: 86 Joe Czerwinski, www.robertparker.com (Apr 2018)

Bright purple colour and simply delicious meaty notes with a generous, spicy black fruit. There's an oak spice element which seems superfluous to me, but overall it’s a super value easy drinker which would be very good chilled. Drinking range: 2017 - 2018 Rating: 15.5 Richard Hemming MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Mar 2017)

Domaine Sainte Eugénie

Domaine Sainte Eugénie says it is 'where Burgundian know-how meets Languedoc terroir', and the winemaker José Ratero, who made wine in Meursault for twenty-five years, seeks to preserve fruit, use oak only in moderation, and make versatile food-friendly wines.
José Ratero who has over 25 Years’ experience making Burgundy in Meursault. Domaine Sainte Eugénie (Languedoc – west of Narbonne) currently has 60 hectares of vines growing on clay and limestone gravel. When you couple the Mediterranean climate with José’s patience before harvest (to have the grapes at perfect ripeness), the results produce a versatile red wine which can be enjoyed with almost anything or absolutely nothing. Ripe, soft and medium bodied the wine has a right bank Bordeaux feel to it which is maybe not so surprising when you see what grapes are used: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Carignan. A feel good wine at a very sensible price
