2016 Minervois Domaine Anne Gros et Jean-Paul Tollot

Syrah 40%, 20% Grenache, 20% Carignan, 20% Cinsault. Nice balance. On limestone and facing north, so quite a cool site - forty year old vines. This wine has over the years gained in energy and become more elongated. There's the freshness and fruit of the the junior wines, with a certain tautening gravelly mineral enlivening it. A lovely seamless fruit mouthful. Drinking range: 2018 - 2025 L&S (Dec 2017)

One of my favourites in the (Minervois) region is made by Burgundian duo Jean-Paul Tollot and Anne Gros from their vines in Cazelles en Minervois: as befits their origins, their Les Fontanilles, while retaining the districts wildness of aroma, has a gracious, supple, red-fruited charm all its own.David Williams, The Observer(Dec 2018)
Half of the 2016 Minervois Les Fontanilles aged in oak, the rest in tank. The blend of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and Cinsault is from a plot on cool, north-facing terroir that is surrounded by garrigue, and those elements—rosemary, thyme, bay leaf—figure prominently in the wine, infusing the bright red-cherry fruit with hints of resinous herbs. Domaine Anne Gros et Jean-Paul Tollot
Anne Gros and Jean-Paul Tollot (Domaine Tollot-Beaut) have taken over some wonderful vineyards in the Minervois, and brought Burgundian savoir-faire to an area which all too often produces sweet or leaden-footed lumpen wines. These wines have a style of lively freshness which is so uncommon anywhere in Languedoc-Roussillon. We were bowled over by their drinkability, and feel they offer so much in terms of character and flavour, while remaining easy to approach, mineral and light of touch.
