The nose on this is just so inviting - really delicious aromas of pastry and zingy citrus. Really delicate mousse with refreshing acidity running through. Very smart, with complex autolytic notes and a lovely salinity and great concentration of apples and lemon zest. So fresh and mouthwatering. L&S (Aug 2021)

Reasonably early bud burst, but wet June and July which meant yields were below average. Then the sun came out and August to October were really warm, with harvest mid-October, which will give a similar wine to our 2011 vintage, with expressive fruit and a lovely rich Chardonnay.

DOSAGE 7.5g/l LEES AGEING 45 Months DISGORGED April 2021 100% MALOLACTIC

This beautiful wine is very pale straw in colour with a fine mousse from 4 years lees ageing. It has a complex nose with very many nuances: freshly baked pastries married with pink grapefruit and apple strudel. There is a wonderful concentration of creamy fruit on the palate; yeasty, bready notes giving way to the signature long and smooth Squerryes finish. The acidity works well with dishes prepared with a creamy sauce or freshly shucked, meaty, creamy oysters, such as a Colchester or Fal Whole bunch pressed and naturally settled for 24-36 hours.

Winemaker's notes (Aug 2021)

Squerryes

‘Licet Esse Beatis’: it is permitted to be joyful. This motto, that adorns the doorway to the Squerryes Estate, could not be more fitting of the wines.

From this corner of the North Downs, often overlooked in winemaking with the more famous South Downs stealing the limelight, the Warde family first noticed the potential in the estate and planted vines here in 2006. A geological survey had confirmed that the chalk escarpment had qualities similar to the esteemed 'Côte des Blancs' region of Champagne.

The only use their own grapes, and the base wines that are blended into the cuvée are aged for the lees for extended periods, creating incredible complexity in the wines.

The wines are extremely smart and beautifully complex, offering masses of autolytic layering with a gorgeous line of fresh acidity.
