Vineyard Bussia

Bussia is renowned for the deep blue clay soil and a good slug of limestone that lies beneath and so always delivers wines with breadth and structure. The Barale family handle this power with their trademark resteraint. Tasted after the Castellero - this is more firm on the palate immediately. There's a lovely clean scrub of fine, fine tannins. The grip is more ‘there’ than in the Castellero but then the whole thing is less showy and less gentle. A classically built Monforte wine - and deeply impressive. More sculpted and solid - but with plenty of firm ripe fruit there too. Still very fine in the way it delivers everything, but a great depth of dark fruit fills out the core with sinew and intensity. Nice flesh loaded with tar, damson, cherry and violet. The acidity is bright and balancing with great drive on the long finish. L&S (Oct 2021)

Barale Fratelli

Barale traces its roots all the way back to 1870 when Barolo appeared on the scene in the Langhe, promoted by the Marchesi Falletti and Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour.

Francesco Barale, great-grandfather of the current owner, was among the pioneers in the production of Barolo. Today Sergio Barale and daughters Eleonora and Gloria carry on the old family tradition. The nineteenth-century manor house in the historic center of Barolo is the administrative and commercial headquarters of the company. Nearby are the historic underground cellars, where new technology has been introduced in accordance with traditional rules. The vinification and aging processes adopted are aimed at producing balanced wines in which the characteristics of the grape variety and region of origin prevail.
