100% whole bunch. From Chabiots, Chatelots and Sentiers. Delicate freshness on floral fruit nose. It feels silky and fine, with a saline, rich, cool red petal and red fruit intensity in the middle. Lovely! Drinking range: 2021 - 2030 L&S (Jan 2019)

*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles of wine (or 9 litre equivalent) or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits, Sweet Wine or Fortified (4.5 litres) to get the discounted 'case price' for each bottle.

(from purchased fruit in Sentiers, Chabiots and Chatelots; released under the Maison Virgile Lignier label; 100% whole cluster). Slightly more elegant and intensely floral-suffused aromas are composed by notes of lavender, violet, spice and red and dark cherry aromas. Consistent with the nose the mouthfeel of the medium weight and vibrant flavors is finer though the mineral and bitter cherry pit-inflected finish is youthfully austere. This is also going to need a few years of cellaring to shed its tannic carapace. This too is really very good and worth considering. Drinking range: 2029 - Rating: 93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2020)

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru “Cuvée Jules” is a blend of three climats (Les Chabiots, Les Sentiers and Les Chatelots) matured with 100% whole bunches due to the small size of plantings. It has a delightful potpourri and lavender bouquet that soars from the glass. The fleshy palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and velvety red fruit, maybe missing a little grip on the finish but very seductive. Enjoy this over the next decade. Drinking range: 2020 - 2030 Rating: 90-92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)

Domaine Lignier-Michelot

A domaine of 11 hectares, 25% regionals, 50% Villages, 20% Premiers crus and 5% Grands Crus. Virgile Lignier worked at the domaine with his father Maurice from 1988, beginning to bottle some of the wine from 1992 (it had previously been sold to the négoce), taking over in 2000, which was the vintage when he first bottled all the domaine's production.

In the vineyard Virgile made significant changes, stopping the use of herbicides, and beginning to plough instead. Green harvesting to limits yields followed, along with greater attention to grape selection. The domaine works organically except in extremis.

The wines have a lovely combination of enough body and richness, combined with a lively clarity of expression. The old vines village cuvées are seriously good, and great value too. Going up the scale each site seems to speak very clearly of its source and there is a brightness and energy along with full, seamless fruit.
