CHÂTEAU VIEUX MAILLET

2017 Pomerol

EN PRIMEUR

The modest range of plum and boysenberry fruit shows good energy, with light bramble and anise notes through the finish. Rating: 87-90 James Molesworth, The Wine Spectator (Apr 2018)

A perfumed nose to this wine, one full of red cherry and peony scents. The palate is gently textured, with an attractive plum-cream character. This comes across on the palate, which shows an elegant medium-bodied presence, with a ripe band of finely grained tannins around the core, and attractive fruit, with a lightly bitter and interesting note to the finish. Overall this feels refined, relaxed, with a gentle grip running though the finish. This seems like a better prospect than some more famous names in this vintage.
