This is a blend of Syrah, Grenache and some amazing 108 year old vine Cinsault, soils here are limestone and clay which with Cazelles being the highest village in Minervois at 220 Mtrs (the same as Vosne Romanee apparently) means these wines have incredible energy. Aged in a mix of 80% Barrique and 20% stainless steel this has notes of wild flowers, loganberry, blackberry and fennel. The palate is bright and vivacious with aniseed, dark fruits and a lovely salty minerality on the finish. Drinking range: 2020 - 2030 L&S (Apr 2020)

The 2017 Minervois Cazelles La Ciaude features a harmonious mix of blueberries, raspberries and cherries on the nose, all wrapped in a subtle cloak of gentle oak. A blend of 40% each Carignan and Syrah with 20% Grenache, aged entirely in oak, this medium to full-bodied wine is supple and velvety, with a degree of harmony and elegance—could that be this parcel's limestone soils?— not seen in the other Tollot & Gras wines. Domaine Anne Gros et Jean-Paul Tollot
Anne Gros and Jean-Paul Tollot (Domaine Tollot-Beaut) have taken over some wonderful vineyards in the Minervois, and brought Burgundian savoir-faire to an area which all too often produces sweet or leaden-footed lumpen wines. These wines have a style of lively freshness which is so uncommon anywhere in Languedoc-Roussillon. We were bowled over by their drinkability, and feel they offer so much in terms of character and flavour, while remaining easy to approach, mineral and light of touch.
