PINOT NOIR

2017 Weingut Petri

Grapes Pinot Noir
Colour Red
Origin Germany, Pfalz
ABV 13.5%

We tasted this cracking Pinot Noir from Max Petri at the very beginning of the year and we found it hard to see why he was quite so excited about it - he said give it 2 months and you will see.. we dutifully did - and he was spot on!! This has filled out just enough to give a juicy, plump feel to the bright red berry fruit. Nicely spiced and with superb energy - this is a Pinot you want to drink - and at this price you can afford to with no real worries! L&S (Dec 2019)

Fruity, seductively rounded German pinot noir (they usually call it spätburgunder). Very good for the price.Fiona Beckett, The Guardian - www.matchingfoodandwine.com (Mar 2020)

Sweet smoke, ripe red fruit, fine tannins and a good acidic crunch on the finish. Light, but not insubstantial. Some violet scent giving complexity, and a pleasantly savoury finish. Drinking range: 2019 - 2021 Rating: 16 Richard Hemming MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Sept 2019)

Weingut Petri

Maximilian Petri's vines are in the Pfalz region on 14 hectares around the village of Herxheim am Berg on the ‘Deutsche Weinstraße’ - the German wine route. This wine-growing municipality is situated 200 metres above sea level on a foothill of the “Haardt” mountains (which are an extension of the Vosges mountains in Alsace), which provide shelter against adverse weather conditions. Little rain, lots of sun and a generally mild climate ensure that even the most demanding types of vines flourish, while the chalky soil with a high mineral content define the character of his wines. Vine cultivation is taken very seriously. Maximilian use's neither herbicides nor insecticides, and only enough fertilizer to provide sufficient nourishment for the vines. Grapes are hand-picked, low yields adhered too and gentle pressing with barrique ageing to retain the grapes natural flavours.
