2017 Silex Chavignol Domaine Vincent Delaporte
We've been lucky enough to taste this wine a couple of times in the last month and every time have been left spell-bound! It is the way that the wine builds on the palate that is so captivating, the nose is classic, herb inflected, classic gooseberry and ripe citrus. But then on the palate, tarragon, fennel, guava, rich minerality, with a gorgeous textural weight. It lasts and lasts on the finish, never losing its focus and drive, simply stunning. Drinking range: 2018 - 2025 L&S (Sep 2018)
*Case price: Mix any 12 bottles of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.
Finer and more mineral than the Chavignol cuvee. Really long and rich but bone dry. Drinking range: 2019 - 2024 Rating: 17 Jancis Robinson MW OBE - www.JancisRobinson.com(Oct 2018)
Domaine Vincent Delaporte
Patrick and I first visited Vincent Delaporte in 1986, a memorable end to a long day, we finished by tasting older and older red and white Sancerres. His wines were in Steven Spurrier's selection for the Caves de la Madeleine, where I had worked several years earlier, and the London end of which Patrick was running at the time. They have featured in the Lea & Sandeman selection since our very first list. The domaine passed to Vincent's son Jean-Yves and his wife Nathalie, and now their son Mathieu has joined them, after a 'stage' at L&S in the summer of 2012, and taken over the winemaking role. They have recently incorporated the vines of Mathieu's uncle, giving them two new jewels in the crown, decent holdings in the Monts Damnés (white) and Cul de Beaujeu (red).
If you can’t treat yourself at Christmas, when can you? Here we’ve got all the bases covered, but with a little more luxury and class. Treat your palate, treat your loved ones and enjoy a seductive and refreshing Christmas.
We have sold Vincent Delaporte's most excellent Sancerres since the dawn of LEA & SANDEMAN itself. They never fail to tantalise, refresh and amaze. From the crisp minerally white (and its old vines bigger brother), through to the bright and enjoyable Pinot Noir reds, with a drop of pretty rosé too. A set to savour.
Back when New Zealand was all about sheep and rugby, the definitive Sauvignon Blanc was Sancerre. It still is a wonderful expression of the variety - steely and mineral, and super-refreshing.
Across the River Loire are the vineyards of Pouilly-Fumé offering similar precise Sauvignon cleanliness.
Less well-known but deserving of more attention are red Sancerres - the bouncy, light and elegant feel of simple Pinot Noir.
All are here, in this case.
