MUNIA TORO

2018 Roble 8 Meses Bodegas Viñaguareña

Grapes Tinta de Toro
Colour Red
Origin Spain, Toro
ABV 14.5%

Made with fruit from the estate's vineyards right above the banks of the Guareña river, (a tributary of the Douro) this pure Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) is loaded with delicious expressive fruit notes from the very old vines. Silky, deep purple berry flesh is pepped up by fresh lines and beautiful spiced aromatics. There is a touch of church incense, some cinnamon - pretty, dried rose petals and plenty of deep black and red fruit. Damsons and blackberries dominate the mid palate and the 'just there', fresh acidity keeps the flow steady. Engaging and delicious - this could be your new favourite for the Autumn! 8 months in a mix of French and American oak barrels certainly add spice and some shape - but stop short of leaving a deep oaky impression. Very moreish. L&S (Oct 2020)

From the Spanish region of Toro, which sits on the Duero river close to the Portuguese border, a spicy and warming red. There’s oak here, a suggestion of autumn leaves, licorice root and roasted fruits, almost cinnamon and the effect is fragrant not sticky.Victoria Moore, The Daily Telegraph (Nov 2020)

Gold Medal

Attractive aromas of cola, wild flowers, medicinal herbs and macerated black fruit. Ripe and lush palate brimming with bitter cherry fruit, dark chocolate and bramble fruit. Complex, layered and full of interest for the price point. Kudos!

Bodegas Viñaguareña

Bodegas Viñaguareña are located by the Guareña river, a tributary of the Duero (or Douro if you're in Portugal). The modern winery was built in 1999, and consists of the most up-to-date wine-making equipment and technology. The vineyards cover 30 hectares of an 82 hectare farm, and consist entirely of the native Tempranillo grape. The vines are mostly aged between 10 - 30 years old, and the winery lose up to 50% of their harvest due to thinning vines in order to maintain the quality and concentration of flavour that they desire.
